Game Theory: Death by NIGHTMARE! (Try To Fall Asleep)

Get yourself some NEW Theory Wear!! ► bit.ly/2N1m7V7
Try To Fall Asleep is an indie horror game that has taken my Theorist brain by storm. Since playing it, I HAD to do a theory. The story revolves around our player character, a man tormented by hallucinations while awake AND asleep. We have to try to fall asleep for our own good, or so our Doctor says. I am going to piece together all of the puzzle pieces of our time awake and dreaming to figure out what is going on at the CENTER of this awesome horror game. Let's go!

  • Fun fact: Some say this is caused by a "Tikbalang", which is an *aswang.* (filipino for "monster". Think of it like this, if the Japanese have "Yokai", we filipinos have "Aswangs"). They are 6ft creatures that have the body of a man, but the head of a horse. They come into your dreams and take ur souls away. If you wake up in time, then you only get sleep paralysis. If you don't, *you die* . Some say they come to take the souls of their victims to take them into the world of the spirits and make them their brides/grooms.

  • wait .....but scientists do know what sleep does. its like common knowledge XD in this video he says no one knows what it does or whyd you die without it. but thats 100% false. 1: during sleep, your heart and lungs slow down ( the things that literally NEVER stop since your born or you would die) this slowing down is so much so that, people even experience sleep apnea, where your lungs stop completely or slow down to much. but science does know why they slow down during sleep. its to regenerate and maintain those organs. its the only time they get to rest. since the body isnt moving they can take break, slow down, and start to use the bodies nutrients and calories to repair the ever moving tissue that never stops. 2: your memory. science knows for a fact that wile you sleep, everything that happened during your day is filed in to different sections of your brain, some kept for long term, and some kept for short term. case and point, you may remember what shirt you wore yesterday, but you may be sorta hazy on what color shirt you wore 2 days ago, and 2 weeks ago you may not even remember the color. but take something dangerous for example, lets say you once texted when driving and got in to a car wreck, you had broken bones and almost died. youd remember that forever, because after it happened your brain put that in the long term section. without sleep your brain starts to put everything in the "short term box" because your not giving it time to sort out those memories. which would eventually overflow in to other parts of the brain creating hallucinations and psychosis. 3: the chemicals in your brain are very complex and they break down. during sleep these chemicles are recycled, and some just recreated, so that you can wake up and continue being able to walk, breath, remember, make choices, experience emotions, ect. when you dont sleep your telling your brain ( HOLD ON! IM STILL AWAKE! KEEP USING THE SAME CHEMICALS!) its essentially like driving a car but never once changing your oil. eventually that cars gona break. same with your brain. it uses a ton of chemicals to make your body function, and the only safe time to replace those is when your instinct to sleep kicks in, your brain literally tells you ( find a safe place, shut your eyes, and dont move) this is so the brain can refuel itself. all of this science knows thats the part im getting at. he says science doesnt know what sleep does or why youd die without it. but for like 60 years yes science has known. i thought this was all common sense XD i mean theres even more stuff i could mention on a cellular level but, i think ive made my point.

  • John Herrin survived a horrible accident and as a result, he damaged his brain and lost his memory. Only Dr. Rick Norberg and the friendly robot "AB" can help John to recover from his brain damage and restore his broken memory. By falling asleep and rediscovering the past in his dreams, John can restore his memory and remember what caused the unfortunate catastrophe in one of the most secretive laboratories of the "Revivel" company. But due to John's brain damage, falling asleep won't be as easy as it seems at first... John will start to hallucinate and hear sounds that will only make it harder to fall asleep. Only by dealing with his fears and staying calm can he successfully fall asleep, otherwise, his overwhelmingly high stress may lead to an untimely death ... lol

  • You guys need to play some puppet combo horror games. Puppet combo is an indie developer who makes horror games with VHS style 80s graphics, the games themselves are pretty scary and fun. I would recommend Nun Massacre, Feed Me Billy, The Glass Staircase, The Night-ripper, and Nightshift/Stay Out of the House respectively. Some are short while others are pretty lengthy, (especially Nun Massacre and Stay Out of the House.) Perfect for some GT livestreams. Not to mention some are pretty good theory material, such as The Glass Staircase.

  • Hey Theorists. It's not Lupus... Uhm Bangugug. From what I can tell, the game describes RISP (Recurring Isolated Sleep Paralysis), a condition where your REM sleep (aka: The dream phase) is disturbed, causing to you enter REM while still partially awake, giving you hellish hallucinations like the ones seen in the game. It can also end your sleep paralysis while still in REM, causing you to act out whatever you're doing in your dream. I've personally punched a wall so hard that my knuckles bled, "sleepran" until I fell out of the bed, and spoken in reverse and slow motion - gave my then-SO nightmares for a week. Odds are that John dies while acting out things happening in his dream, causing him to jump through closed windows or what have you. RISP is also often linked to lucid dreaming, so it would also make sense that John has enough control of his dreams to interact with them. It's treatable by a combination of bupropion (a SNRI antidepressant), promethazine, behavioural therapy and maintaining good sleep hygiene and can improve to a point where even heavy cases with multiple episodes per month are reduced to one or two episodes a year. On the other hand, RISP episodes can become much more common and debilitating when under stress or anxiety, like recovering from traumatic events. Sticking someone with RISP in bed and telling them to "sleep it off" is probably almost garanteed to make the case worse - which we also witness in the game.
